There is no question or argument that soccer was played at the Polo Grounds. Someone once said that just about every conceivable sporting event was held there except polo. You would have to get permission from that website to post the photo directly. Also, is it from 1926? It looks more recent than that. Wahkeenah 06:25, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanx for the info about the picture. I will try to email the Soccer hall of fame. According to the halls archives that game took place in 1926. Maybe I can get more info from them as well. I just wanted to document that the polo grounds was a hallowed home of soccer in the North East of America in the early to mid 20th century. This is my first attempt at wiki, so thank you for the help. Please let me know what I am doing right, and what I am doing wrong.
    • First, you should sign your posts on talk pages, by putting four tildes (squiggles) at the end. My spouse used to work for a company that sells soccer equipment, and they had a bunch of soccer photos in their lunchroom, including one taken at the Polo Grounds ca. 1943, so there is no question soccer was played there, I just don't know to what extent. The Polo Grounds in its day was what Yankee Stadium later became, the home of just about any large public gathering in New York: baseball, football, soccer, boxing, even classical symphony orchestra concerts were held there. I don't know that they had any Popes visit the Polo Grounds, as Paul VI did at Yankee Stadium. Wahkeenah 07:00, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
      • Four tildes? What do you mean by signing my posts with four tildes (squiggles) at the end? I'm not sure what you mean by that. I like to learn more about my city and its sports history, outside of the more popular things. And since I like soccer (and hockey), I wanted to learn about the soccer hisotry in NYC. Turns out the Polo grounds held many games. I even saw references to Ebbets field and Yankee Stadium. Shea still holds game once evry year or two involving Colombia.

Hi, you have added quite a bit to this article. Please also add sources with this new information. Links to news articles would be perfect. If we can't prove something from a third party source, we can't keep it in the article. Clerks 21:20, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    • Finding references can often be the hardest part. We know from experience that somethings are true, but in the wiki encyclopedia worl it is important to have outside confirmation to lend creditability. I added your Road Trip reference to the main article. Clerks 22:08, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

re: Let's go Rangers chant You've added material to this article without adding references. This weakens the article overall. I'm assuming you were there and could testify under oath that it happened, but for an encyclopedia to have creditability you need to cite references. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by MarkRoberts (talkcontribs) 20:33, 11 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

  • You are right. I was there, and did participate in this. I am looking for media sources to back this up. could you please put the info I posted in the "discuss" section so it's not lost in case I can come up with the reference? Nyrmetros 20:38, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
